Hospital visit

Last night we got home around 8pm and when I got Damon out of the car I could tell he had a fever. We took his temp and it was 102.1. We were watching him breath and he was not breathing normally so I took his heart rate and it was a little higher than normal. I called the cardio dr on call for Dr Tong and told him what was going on with Damon and he suggested we take him in to be seen.

I took him to the ER around 9pm and they put in an iv and took a blood sample to do some tests on it. They also did an EKG because his heart rate was in the 170's. The highest it got was 208 (that I saw) and that was when they had him bundled up to put his iv in. The dr in the ER told us they were going to give him some sort of vitamin to calm his heart down. At one point after Damon had been lying still for several minutes his heart calmed down to a normal rate and when we told the dr that he decided to wait to give the vitamin to see if his heart rate would slow down again on it's own. They had given him some meds for his fever (which peaked at 103.4) and as that was going down, his heart was calming. They also gave him iv antibiotics just in case his blood cultures came back positive. They decided to admit him so they could watch his heart rate over night and so Dr Grote could see him in the morning.

We got in a room about 2:30am. This morning he was doing pretty good, he ate some breakfast and was cranky but not too bad. Around 10am he got another fever and they gave him some more meds for that. Dr Grote came in about noon and checked him out. He said he had seen the initial results of the blood work and his white blood count was high, indicating an infection. He also told the nurses some other things about it that I didn't understand that he took to mean that it was something viral that he has. So he sent us home and said it was something that will just have to run it's course. We got back home about 2:15pm today. Damon is still a little cranky, but for the most part he's back to normal. He's pretty mad at me for letting all those people mess with him. At one point last night he wouldn't even look at me.

We would appreciate your prayers for his quick healing from this virus. Talk to you soon.

Sarah

Damon is such a trooper. Only those who have had their heart race like that can only know what he was feeling like. I have heard it is a very very bad feeling. Please also pray for Myles. He really still doesn't understand when Damon is sick. He talks about going back to Children's Hospital when Damon gets sick. It's a fun place for him to visit, but he doesn't understand that it's not fun for Damon. He truly loves his brother though and maybe he also knows that Damon gets the best care when he goes there and he doesn't have to worry about him. Hopefully all will be good today. Munkin
